Hólar Cathedral is a Church of Iceland landmark located in Hólar, Iceland. Its history dates back to 1050 when it was established by Oxa Hjaltasonar. This cathedral has experienced several changes over the centuries and withstood the test of time. From conversion to the Protestant faith in the 16th century, to complete construction around 1757-1763, this beautiful church stands tall today as the official church of the bishop of Hólar, Solveig Lára Guðmundsdóttir. In 1950, a memorial tower was built to honor the last Catholic Bishop of Hólar, Jón Arason, and his two sons who were killed during reformation efforts. Today, visitors can still admire the intricate architecture from afar, while exploring the breathtaking views of the Icelandic landscape nearby.
