Message from Irene Pila

The history of La Matanza de Acentejo, a town near the north coast of Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, goes way back. The area was part of the ancient Taoro kingdom. Later, it was the site of two historic battles - the first lost by the Spanish in 1494, named "la matanza" (the slaughter). The second battle saw a victory for the Spanish and the founding of the town of la Victoria de Acentejo.
