Hellfire Pass, located in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand, is a historically significant site commemorating the sufferings of those involved with the construction of the Thai-Burma Death Railway. During World War II, Australian, British, Dutch and other allied prisoners of war were forced to build the railway cutting which was named "Hellfire Pass" due to its resemblance to a scene from Hell. Visitors to this memorial site can now walk through the cutting and take an audio tour of the area. The nearby Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre provides information and exhibits about the construction of the Death Railway, as well as a memorial to those who lost their lives during its construction.
