Elevador de Aguas de Gordejuela, also known as Casa Hamilton, is a spectacular industrial ruin near Los Realejos in Tenerife. It was initially constructed by the Hamilton company in 1903, amidst the lush green landscape of the Orotava Valley, to pump fresh water from the Gordejuela springs to local banana plantations. The facility includes three buildings, each with its own unique story- the boiler building armed with the first steam engine on Tenerife, the employee's building, and the main building with a notorious five storey machine room. This fascinating ruin has received much public visitations, however, it was added to the Red List due to its state of abandonment. Its ruins, along with its expansive backdrop of native flora, make this an exhilarating experience and an iconic symbol of rural life on the island.
