Culross is a small village and former royal burgh situated in Fife, Scotland. With an estimated population of 395 people according to 2006 estimates, it has seen some famous visitors throughout its history, including Saint Serf, who founded the village around the 6th century and Christian Cavendish, Countess of Devonshire. It's known for its secondary industry of salt panning and coal-mining during the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as having a monopoly on the manufacture of girdles. Nowadays, Culross is Digital Film Destination, a hotspot for many motion pictures over the past few decades such as Kidnapped (1971) and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). It's also home to astonishing architectural heritage such as Culross Palace with its crow-step gable design, the Study (17th century); and even the remains of the Cistercian house of Culross Abbey.

This place is fast becoming one of our favourite day trips from Edinburgh and has to be up there for one the most charming villages in the whole of the UK.⁣
