Built in 1862 by David Stevenson, the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse is one of the most distinct lighthouses in Scotland. Situated on the Northern Hebrides island of Lewis, this lighthouse is constructed out of red brick and stands at a towering 37 metres - an eye-catching sight against the blue ocean vistas. The lighthouse aims to aid shipping with its range of 25 nautical miles, emitting its characteristic white light which flashes every 5 seconds. Today, Butt of Lewis Lighthouse is a Category A listed building, and is firmly part of Scotland’s rich maritime heritage.
